MOROCCO EARTHQUAKE EMERGENCY

Morocco faces massive humanitarian needs and catastrophic damage.

In the late hours of September 08 2023, Morocco experienced a seismic event that would leave a lasting impact on the nation. A powerful earthquake, measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale, struck the central region of the country, affecting cities like Marrakesh, Taroudant, Asmiz and Chichaoua, and surrounding areas.

The earthquake’s immediate aftermath was characterized by scenes of destruction and chaos. Buildings collapsed, infrastructure was damaged, and countless families found themselves homeless. The toll on human lives was heart-wrenching, with numerous casualties and injuries reported. It was a stark reminder of the unpredictability of natural disasters and the urgent need for both national and international assistance.

As rescue operations persist, the emphasis is gradually transitioning towards offering vital aid to survivors who have suffered the loss of their homes, possessions, sources of income, and loved ones.
